What is it and How Does it work?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment modality that applies of a series of high-energy percussions to your injured muscles and tendons which have been proven to accelerate both acutely and chronically injured tissues. It works by stimulating the metabolism in the area and improving blood circulation to facilitate the healing and regeneration of damaged tissue.

This form of treatment is very effective for:

  • repetitive strain disorders
  • plantar fasciitis
  • tennis elbow
  • golfer elbow
  • rotator cuff tendinopathies
  • achilles tendinopathy
  • jumpers knee/patella tendinopathy
  • hamstring tendinopathy

Typical Shockwave Therapy treatment protocols include 3-6 treatments at one week intervals.

How we integrate it in your care at reactivate muskoka

Shockwave Therapy is often the only treatment required in order to achieve the desired outcomes for a particular injury, however in many cases, optimal results would be followed up by some rehabilitative exercises.

In chronic injury cases, the shockwave treatments will help breakdown scar tissue and poorly healed tissue, which will reduce pain, however proper rehabilitative exercises, (which can be provided by our rehabilitative specialists) are essential in order to restore proper muscle strength and function which will in turn, prevent re-injury.
